Dead Poets Society: Film Review And Analysis

Dead Poets Society is a masterpiece by Peter Weir and a movie that teenagers must watch. Three main characters are featured in this film: Robin Williams plays John Keating, Robert Sean Leonard is Neil Perry and Ethan Hawke is Todd Anderson. Dead Poets Society has been a classic film since its release in the 1990s.

John Keating was a teacher of English who tried using poetry to influence the students. He was teaching “seizing the day”. Neil Perry, a popular student, was repressed by his father because he wanted him to be an engineer. But Neil discovered his passion for acting. Todd Anderson is a shy, insecure student who was never able to develop his own confidence.

Keating, a teacher of literature at their school, began to develop the story. Even the teachers were strict with their students. The school’s curriculum was very demanding. John Keating’s teaching method was unconventional and focused more on the student finding themselves than anything in a book. John Keating did not give his students any homework, but he focused more on the importance of living a happy life.

When students learned about The Death Poets Society, the movie was elevated. The students restarted the Death Poets Society and were motivated to act on what their inner selves told them. It created chaos which led to Neil Perry committing suicide and John Keating’s expulsion.

The movie is a masterpiece because of several factors. Firstly, actors immerse into their characters and give them all of their energy and passion. Robert Williams was a poet who loved poetry and he showed this passion by teaching.

The cinematography, meanwhile, was flawless. The scenes that were covered by the camera during Neil’s death, with the snow outside and the sudden transition between scenes was almost perfect.

I was a teenager when I watched this film. It showed me the situations that a young person goes through. The expectations of their teachers, parents, and other members of society can all affect a teenager. Teenagers often forget to enjoy their lives in order to succeed. As time passes, they find themselves old and wishing to be teenagers again.

This film is an excellent example of how society really looks. This movie shows how society will not accept anyone who tries to change it. John Keating was expelled for trying to change teaching and Neil attempted to follow his dreams but ended up committing suicide.
